The Chainsmokers are writing the next chapter on their own terms. “Baby” arrived on October 16, 2026 as a one-track single, the first new music from Alex Pall and Drew Taggart since they announced in early October that they had left Columbia and Disruptor after 11 years. They teased it on Instagram on October 14, and the credit reads The Chainsmokers alone.
The split is the story around this record, and the duo were refreshingly blunt about it. “After 11 amazing years, we are now independent artists,” they wrote, before admitting they “have no idea what to expect” from whatever comes next. That uncertainty feels like the whole point. After a decade inside one of the biggest machines in dance-pop, “Baby” sounds like two guys deciding to find out what they make when nobody else is steering.
The lyric video sets the mood before the hook even lands. Soft blue skies, pale mint frames, and the same white moth caught in a dewy spiderweb that sits on the cover. It is fragile, bright, and a little tangled up, which is a pretty good read on a song called “Baby” released by a duo starting over at 3:48 a pop.
It follows the Love Is Kind EP with Oaks, and the live calendar stays packed. Las Vegas residency nights at Encore Beach Club and XS run through the fall, BOO Arizona lands in Scottsdale on October 31, and December takes them from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. We are very curious where this independent run goes from here.
