Two Friends tap into a much heavier feeling on “Zombie,” teaming up with Alexander Stewart and LØLØ for a song about being surrounded by people while still missing the one person you actually want there.
The track lives in that strange space after something ends, when you are technically moving on but emotionally nowhere close. You can be in a packed room, talking, drinking, dancing, doing everything you are supposed to be doing, and still feel completely numb.
That is what makes the line “I’m a zombie at this party with somebody that I wish was you” hit so hard. It is simple, but painfully specific.
Alexander Stewart and LØLØ give the song two sides of the same ache, while Two Friends wrap it in the kind of emotional production that makes heartbreak feel strangely euphoric.
Sometimes missing someone does not look dramatic. Sometimes it just looks like standing in a crowded room and feeling absolutely nothing.
