This week’s New Music Friday is stacked in a way that actually feels fun to dig through. There is a little bit of everything here, dance, pop, hip-hop, indie, alt, and a few records that sit right in the middle of all of it.
Our favorite song of the week is easily HUGEL’s “Movin’ To The Sun.” It is sexy, smooth, and absolutely feels like one of those records that is going to be everywhere once summer really gets going. Wiz Khalifa and mgk also came through with their 9-track blog era boyz mixtape, and it really does tap back into that original blog boys spirit that made both of them hit so hard in the first place and allowed us to live out our dreams of breaking music from our college dorm rooms.
Elsewhere, Emmit Fenn keeps putting together one of the most impressive week-to-week runs out right now. HAYLA is quickly making her case as one of the great British vocalists, and “Enough” is already deep in rotation over here. Icona Pop are doing exactly what they do best, Dean Lewis has us in our feelings again, and Baauer is on a serious tear, with the first three songs from his upcoming album U setting him up for what could be a Grammy-level run.
Kygo linking with Dan Tyminski feels like a beautiful nod back to the Avicii era and the kind of emotional dance records that changed so many lives. Cameron Whitcomb still cannot miss and remains one of our favorite artists to watch right now, while his Diplo collab makes total sense and lands exactly how it should. And Olivia Rodrigo’s “the cure” cuts a little deeper than expected, giving this week’s release pile one more standout moment in a Friday that is already loaded.
Dig in and share with your friends. We will be sorting through all the music to save you time and keep you in the know of the best up and coming artists.
