Marlon Hoffstadt is in the fast line with the first single off his upcoming LP Das Ist Daddy. The new album, arrives August 7, and if the title alone did not make the point clear enough, the first single definitely does.
“Party People” feels exactly like the kind of opening statement it needed to be. It is loud, infectious, a little chaotic, and completely built around that fan-first energy Marlon has been turning into a movement. The track samples Marshall Jefferson’s “Move Your Body” and The Puppies’ “Hokey Pokey II,” but it does not play like a museum piece. It feels alive. Sweaty. Immediate. Like something made to send a room into motion before anyone has time to overthink it.
That same energy was all over his Coachella debut, where “Das Ist Daddy” flashed across the Sahara screen after he brought 300 fans onstage with him in one of the more unforgettable full-circle moments of the weekend. It was the perfect setup for an album that already sounds less like a polished label play and more like a love letter to the people who have been riding with him from the jump.
If “Party People” is the invitation, then Das Ist Daddy sounds like it is going to be the full rave. And judging by the way Marlon has been moving, it is not going to ask politely.
