Some covers feel respectful. This one feels possessed in the best way.
Atlanta recording artist KELSON takes Tears for Fears’ classic “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and gives it an entirely new life alongside Jake Warren. The bones of the original are still there, but the feeling shifts. It becomes smokier. Fuller. More human. And once KELSON’s voice comes in, the whole thing opens up in a way that is hard to shake.
That vocal is the real center of gravity here. There is soul in it. Weight too. KELSON does not just sing the song, she pulls it through a different emotional climate and somehow makes it feel both familiar and brand new at the same time. Wow is honestly the first reaction, and maybe the right one.
What really stands out is how live this feels, even through speakers. You can already picture it. Lights low. Room quiet for half a second. Then that vocal lands and suddenly the air changes. This is the kind of performance that would knock the socks off your feet and leave the hair standing up on the back of your neck.
