Galantis released “1234” on September 9, 2026, a rework of Feist’s 2007 single and the fourth to arrive from The Devil’s Tax Return: Volume 1, out October 16, 2026 on Counter Records. Christian Karlsson has now shown enough of this record for the shape of it to be obvious. Every track on it belongs to somebody else.
Feist put “1234” on The Reminder in 2007, and it may still be the most commercially loaded song placement of the iPod era. Apple built the third-generation nano campaign around it. The single reached No. 8 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart in October 2007, and moved 249,000 copies in the month the ad ran. Most people knew the handclaps long before they knew the title.
Karlsson pushes it toward synthpop. Pulsing synths, a low end built for a club rather than a television ad, and a melody left recognisable enough that the hook still does its job. It sounds less like a cover than like a song relocated into a louder room.
The full tracklist arrived alongside this single, and it explains the whole run. Six tracks, six reworks: José González, Paleface and Kyla, Frankie Valli, The Killers, Feist, and The War On Drugs. Those are the songs Karlsson was living with around the time he started Miike Snow and stepped back from the pop machine that had already put his name on Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and won him a GRAMMY for Best Dance Recording. Read that way, the Frankie Valli rework and this one are two entries in the same diary.
The EP lands October 16, 2026, the same night Karlsson plays Portland. From there the run pushes through Denver’s MIDSOMMAR, a stop in Milwaukee, and a Halloween set at Escape: Psycho Circus.
