Armin van Buuren and Funk Tribu released “Nirvana” on October 9, 2026 through Armada Music, a two-track single with a 3:04 edit and a 5:11 extended mix. Armin’s own site calls it the pair’s first collab, and it grew out of a spontaneous moment at A State of Trance in Rotterdam that the two spent about six months shaping into a finished record.
Funk Tribu is the Colombian-born, Berlin-based producer behind “Phonky Tribu,” and one of the names driving the current nu-trance wave with a sound pulled from 90s and 2000s trance, techno and rave. The two also went face-to-face in Area 1 at A State of Trance 2026, and “Nirvana” sounds like that pairing written down: Armin’s classic trance instincts meeting Funk Tribu’s retro-futurist edge.
The synths are pure euphoria, bright and wide, with a whispered “nirvana” floating over the top. The first drop stays melodic and atmospheric, then the second one hits a lot harder before the whole thing fades out. It feels like a sunrise set compressed into three minutes, and the extended mix gives it the room to breathe that a dancefloor will want.
It lands in the middle of a busy run for Armin, right after “Take Me Home” on September 25 and a summer that included “No Mercy” with Adam Beyer. He also hosts his Amsterdam Dance Event opening party at Gashouder in Amsterdam on October 21, and this one sounds made for that room.
