KAPUCHON is stepping into a new lane with “Secret Moves,” and it feels like a clean fit. Landing as his first release on Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations, the new single gives Afrojack’s underground alias another strong moment to stretch out away from the giant festival side of his world and dig deeper into something rougher, loopier, and more locked into the floor.
That is really where this one lives. The groove keeps circling, the rhythm does the heavy lifting, and the energy keeps climbing without needing some huge payoff to make its point. There is also a little early ’90s hip-hop flavor tucked into it, which gives the track a bit more character and helps it hit with a different kind of swagger.
KAPUCHON has always felt like the place where Afrojack can get closer to the roots of what first pulled him into house and techno, and “Secret Moves” continues that idea well. Following the momentum of “Hot Sauce” with GLZ and Miss Monique, this one adds another sharp edge to that catalog while giving Hot Creations a nice jolt in the process.
