Some artists announce a new era. Masego cut his hair and started writing things down. Fix Your Face is his third album, out now via Capitol Records, and it is the sound of a musician who spent nearly three years taking himself apart to see what was underneath.
The title comes from the phrase mothers use, the one Masego describes as arriving “when they expect their kids to immediately tighten up and stop the tears.” He turned it into a posture. Sixteen tracks built with co-producer Jordan Elgie, pulled from a pile of more than 150 songs written after a period of personal upheaval, all of it aimed at the one thing his catalogue had mostly danced around. Before writing he ran what he calls a scholastic level of research on artists who got vulnerability right, from Labi Siffre and Mary J. Blige to D’Angelo and PartyNextDoor. It shows. This feels less like a groove record with feelings attached and more like feelings that happen to groove.
The features are chosen rather than collected. Buju Banton anchors “Hello” in Jamaican tradition, threading Shawty Lo’s Southern influence through a Caribbean lens so Atlanta nostalgia comes out sounding like heritage. Keyshia Cole takes “Someone,” Leon Thomas lands on “QVC,” and Musiq Soulchild turns up on “Overthinking.” Focus track “Heaven” is the softest thing here, layered vocals warming into something close to a gospel choir, drawn straight from his childhood as a pastor’s kid in Virginia and the Kirk Franklin and Clark Sisters records that came with it.
The “Recommend” video is the best argument for why he gets away with all of it. He appears in multiple forms across the frame, on keyboard, guitar, drums, saxophone, bass, keytar, and vocals, which is a flex disguised as a jazz-roots nod. “Breathe” arrived on Juneteenth with his first official video in over two years, built around a motionless choir that only breaks into movement at the bridge.
He takes it out on August 4, 2026 in Dallas for a 40-plus date run, his first headline tour in nearly three years and the biggest of his career, hitting the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Radio City Music Hall in New York, and The O2 in London. Nearly three billion streams and a GRAMMY nomination into this, Masego is finally touring the version of himself he had been circling the whole time.
