Billy Strings released So Much For Goodbyes on August 28, 2026 through Reprise Records, on digital, CD and a two-disc LP. He produced it alongside T Bone Burnett, and it follows 2024’s Highway Prayers. “Burn the Other End” went out ahead of it on June 30, 2026.

The guest list reads like a bluegrass summit nobody had to oversell. Del McCoury turns up on “Lay Me Down”. Alison Krauss lands on “Live to Tell”. Lindsay Lou shades the harmonies on “Mill Town Flood”. Around them the record works through leaving home, love, loss, longing, and the particular loneliness that comes with a life measured in venues. It feels less like a set of songs than a long drive with the radio off.

The most affecting thing about it might be the packaging. The cover is a piece made by Strings’ mother, an elaborate green and gold cabinet crowded with dioramas, gilded hands, moss and animal skulls, with a photograph of Strings and his guitar tucked onto the middle shelf. The album then closes on “Debra’s Waltz”, an instrumental written for her. Put those two things side by side and the title stops reading like a shrug.

It arrived on a genuinely stacked release day and still got singled out by NPR, which says something about how this run is landing. Five albums deep, and Strings keeps finding new places to put the same restlessness.
