Baauer is heading back into album mode with U, his third full-length and first since PLANET’S MAD. Set for release on June 12, the 16-track project is being framed as his most personal yet, pulling from the Ibiza house, bloghouse, and BBC Radio 1 dance sounds that first pulled him into electronic music as a teenager in London.
That spirit comes through clearly on lead single “Better.” Bright, loose, and built with a real sense of lift, the track points to an album that is less about brooding and more about movement, hooks, and straight-up feeling good. It sounds like Baauer letting instinct take the wheel.
That shift matters. Executive produced by Hudson Mohawke and shaped in part by the more open, real-time creative process Baauer developed during the pandemic, U seems built around immediacy rather than overthinking. Between the collaborators, the sample-driven energy, and the more front-facing way he has approached making music lately, this feels like a project aimed at reconnecting with the fun that started it all.
