Mt. Joy’s “Is Joy Easy” explores the depths of fear and joy and how tightly they are intertwined. Keeping it mellow with a perfectly fitting indie rock backdrop, they let the feels do the talking.
An attempt to reframe joy. A song in two parts. The anticipation that consumes us and builds a home for fear, and the bliss of living in the moment.
This idea came from a mantra that was given to me to combat chronic anxiety. I was once told to reframe my fear of failure into a question of what it would look like if you succeeded: “What if you’re great?”
In what’s been a difficult winter for me personally, through loss and a battle with depression, this song arose as an attempt to use that mantra in a different way: What if joy is easy? What if it happens all the time? Less a destination and more the privilege to be then and there. The part right after the sweaty palms. Maybe it’s BS – but it brought us this song. Hope it brings some joy, the world could use it. – Matt
