The newest, official release from Mat Zo is a perfect example of his undeniable talent and natural creativity. One thing I love about Mat Zo’s music is that everything he releases is super cool. It’s catchy, but it’s definitely not mainstream and he’s always in total control of his sound.
The track titled, “Lucid Dream” is a progressive-house recording off his upcoming album, Damage Control. He uses varied tempos extremely well, at each chord progression, first capturing your attention with an eerie sample underneath hard, cutting bass-lines. But with such an edgy beginning you wouldn’t expect the harmonic bridge that just ties the entire song together. He will easily surprise you at each successive chord progression, alternating between bass, melodies, and samples, while increasing the tracks’ energy and tempo as you dive deeper into the music. While I don’t believe that this song has the appeal of his other releases, such as his collaboration with Porter Robinson on “Easy“, I do believe it’s solid and a message from Mat Zo that the best is yet to come. His album Damage Control releases November 5th on the classic Ajunabeat Records, but until then take a listen to “Lucid Dreams” and vibe to it.
