It has now been 3 complete years since EDM truly blew up here in the US, each year from my perspective has had one sub-genre that ends up completely dominating the scene and residing in the foreground of everything dance music related. In 2011, it was dubstep. For 2012, it was progressive house. And now in 2013, it has been the thumping, bass-laden big room house that has held a tight grip on the festival circuit for the past 12 months. While I do love this Big Room style, I would be beyond ignorant if I didn’t acknowledge how over-saturated the scene has become with this style. However, in comes Dzeko & Torres. With the spotlight shining bright upon them as their new track “Highline” gets a release on the great Tiesto’s label Musical Freedom.
Dzeko & Torres’ new track is a testament to what 2013 was missing just a little bit of, beautifully melodic progressive house. With a hugely resonant melody bursting right at you over a beat that makes you dance yet takes nothing away from the melody in the crescendo. This is Dzeko & Torres’ first original track in quite a while, but they’ve been just killing everything they’ve remixed in the past several months. Oddly enough, a duo that burst onto the scene with a funky electro remix of a Chuckie track, is now having their progressive house gem of an original released on Musical Freedom. Rightfully so. Stream this track below, and make sure to cop it on Beatport if you dig it as much as I do.
