50 Cent Earns First Gold Single In 4 Years with, “I’m The Man”
It’s been five years since we were promised the release of record-breaking Hip-Hop mogul 50 Cent’s long-awaited now sixth full-length album, ‘Street King Immortal’. Originally bursting onto the scene in 2003, 50 Cent reigned over music for consecutively six years; however, the past four years has shown signs of irrelevance with several single releases falling by the waste side. But it looks like a resurgence is on the horizon for the Jamaica Queens, New York-native.
RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has recently certified that 50 Cent’s latest single, “I’m the Man” has sold over 500,000 streams-plus-sales and been recognized gold status. Its been four years since the last plaque for the “In Da Club” entertainer which he received a platinum certification back in 2009 for fourth album, ‘Before I Self Destruct’.
Before 50 made “I’m the Man” his own, the track originally belonged to popular Atlanta producer Sonny Digital. the track was originally a failed debut single for Digital released back in October 2014. 50 Cent made the song his own when he released it on his late-2015 mixtape, ‘The Kanan Tape’ in support of his new Starz network series, ‘Power’. As the song’s popularity grew, 50 decided to make the track an official commercial single back in last February.
“I’m the Man”‘s track record throughout 2016 includes the following, debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. Cracked both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts. The song’s short film has gathered over 7.5 million views on Youtube with a remix video featuring R&B singer Chris Brown accumulating over 60 million views.
It was reported over the summer, “I’m the Man” was featured in the season two premiere of HBO’s Ballers, which drew 1.6 million viewers. In the following week, the song had generated 13.8 million streams, 109,000 Shazams and 20,000 downloads in the US — a 280% gain from the previous week. The “I’m the Man” remix was also featured in Power, the Starz TV series starring, produced and co-created by 50 Cent. By the end of July, both versions of “I’m the Man” held the top two spots on THR’s Top TV Songs chart.
50 Cent currently signed to a independent worldwide distribution deal through Caroline/Capitol. 50 Cent was recently featured on the remix version of the new Young M.A. craze smash hit, “OUUUU”.
