Herobust Talks Inspirations, Rappers, His ‘Busted’ Sound & More [Exclusive Interview]
Ever since exploding onto the EDM scene, Herobust has been easily recognized as one of the most creative producers out there. We at FITA were able to sit down with him at Moonrise Festival to speak about his history, inspirations, goals, and much more in this exclusive interview.
What’s the history of Herobust & the meaning behind your name?
I was always really inspired by Hercules and framed my musical project to be represented by his core values. I chose Hero for heroism, and Robust for strength: HeRobust. It sort of evolved as my music evolved, and eventually became Herobust, to represent the “busted” feel of my tracks and the vibe at my shows.
How do you prepare and what gets you most amped during a performance?
Workout + Dirty South Hip Hop.
What is your favorite performance to date? What’s the craziest party you’ve ever been to? What’s the furthest from home you’ve traveled for a show?
Picking a fav is really difficult. I always love playing in my hometown, ATL! The craziest party are always the after parties. You never know what you are getting into and if it is a bunch of DJs going expect to hear b2b sets. Australia and New Zealand was great tour and was FAR away.
If you could sing one song on ‘American Idol’, what would it be and why?
enrique iglesias hero
Do you prefer to make originals or remixes? Favorite original or remix?
I love making my original tracks because I feel that those show how I create. Remixes are a way for me to really just have fun adding my Busted sound into songs that I feel could use it! Having a favorite track would really not help me move forward as a producer, I love all my songs and remixes. I put a lot of effort and time into creating all of them and if I pick favorites, then the other songs would get jealous.
Ever since you started the ‘Busted’ series, people anxiously wait to see what you will ‘bust’ next…so, what can we expect ‘Busted’ wise in the near future?
Well, I just released my Busted version of Broccoli by D.R.A.M.
However, I have some ideas for a couple Busted tracks in the future, but nothing I can mention right this second!
Who or what do you look to for inspiration?
I’m uncontrollably inspired by the music around me. What you hear come out of me is an amalgamation of all the music I’ve been around. I’ve been playing a bunch of festivals so stay tuned!
What are you currently working on? Any secret collabs or projects?
Then it wouldn’t be a secret now would it? Lol
You are very experimental with your productions; do you have a favorite ‘genre’?
I really love old, dirty south hip hop. Being from Atlanta, I was raised on that, and it was a lifestyle there, so that influences any music I do.
Anything that you’re particularly excited about for the end of the year?
Holy Ship! is gonna be dope.
What are your future plans? Where do you see yourself in 15-20 years?
Man, I would really like to move into getting involved with rappers and artists, and make beats and produce music all day.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I am your HERO! Destroying you with Bass.
