Electric Forest Is A Life-Changing Experience And Here’s Why

Electric Forest is a 4 day, multi-genre festival, that returned to Rothbury, Michigan for its 6th installment June 23rd – 26th. After the 14+ hour drive from NYC, we were finally able to experience this unique festival and all of the positive energy around it. During the 4 days, we witnessed such diversity; from the people, to the artists of all kinds, and much more. The whole festival was an incredible experience and we’ll share with you the Top 5 Reasons Why Electric Forest Is A Life Changing Experience. Reason #1: Diversity of Music
If there’s one thing that Electric Forest has proven time and time again, it’s pulling together a lineup that touches every aspect of electronic music and jam bands, and caters to the wide range of festival-goers tastes.

In the course of the 4 days we heard rap, house, trap, live bands, and everything in between. The diversity of the music throughout the festival was so unique; whether we were at DJ Jazzy Jeff, Duke Dumont, 12th Planet or Major Lazer, it was safe to safe the music to kickoff the festival was absolutely incredible.
Friday was just as fun filled with epic performances from G Jones, Caspa B2B Rusko, and an absolutely mind-blowing B2B2B2B from Brillz, 12th Planet, Mija & NGHTMRE!
Moving on to Saturday, the diversity of the music was just as magical. From Mija B2B Anna Lunoe, to Getter, Bassnectar, Apashe & Flosstradamus was stacked for an unforgettable experience.
Although everyone was sad for Sunday to be the last day, the music kept everyone going! Jackal, Tchami & GRiZ gave the hearts to deliver some amazing performances to really sum up a magical weekend of diverse music.

Reason #2: #ForestFam
The only thing more diverse than the actual music was the people of Electric Forest. The important thing here isn’t that there so many people from so many places, but that all of these people have come together as one for one purpose.

The #ForestFam is made up of people of all ages that are from all around that world that came to experience the magic this year. It was pleasantly shocking to hear so many people came from so much further than us just to experience this wonderful place. And after meeting so many different people from around the world, one thing was very clear: no matter what, everyone there was there to have fun, to not judge others, and to experience something new and exciting. The community dynamic is extremely unique thanks to the #ForestFam. It doesn’t matter if you came to EF in a group or just alone, you will feel the extremely friendly community atmosphere almost instantaneously.

Reason #3: Location, Location, Location
There’s no place more appropriate to host a festival like Electric Forest than at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan. Electric Forest does everything in its power to make you feel as safe as possible, while also disconnecting from reality as much as possible.

In addition to massive campgrounds and festival grounds, Electric Forest also offers one amazing gem: the Gold Rush Indoor Waterpark. If you just want to take a break from the actual festival, you can always take a shuttle to the waterpark. But the location as a whole brought out one clear vibe: an absolute sense of freedom and expression. Being able to hear amazing music, meet new people, and do this all while being encapsulated in a breath-taking forest is something special and exclusive to the Electric Forest experience.

Reason #4: ALL OF THE ART!

Everywhere you went at Electric Forest, including the campgrounds, there was something to catch your eye. EF is much more than just a music festival. It’s much more than a festival. With installations, interactive elements, and tons of super creative vendors, EF is the perfect opportunity to forget your worries, disconnect from your daily life, and immerse yourself in another world.

Being in the Forest will absolutely change you for the best and one example is with art. I never found myself wanting art in my house, on my walls, etc. But after walking around the Forest and seeing all of the vendors and installations and all of the elements around me, I knew that I needed to bring something back with me; and I was lucky enough to find 2 pieces that I fell in love with and brought them back to NYC.

Reason #5: Stages & Curated Events
With 7 different and unique stages, Electric Forest did a great job of keeping the stages as interesting as the artists performing on them. Another element to make the stages and performances more organized and exciting were the Curated Events. Curated Events are special stage takeovers that invite the Forest Family to become immersed in the world of tastemaking music labels and artists. Each Curated Event is a carefully concocted mix of flavors from a unique and trendsetting corner of musical innovation. This year the Curated Events hosts were All Good Records, Anjunadeep, Bassrush, House of EFUNK and Night Bass.

There are essentially 2 ‘main stages’ at EF: Ranch Arena & Sherwood Court. They are on opposite ends of the Forest itself, both offering massive amounts of space perfect for those giant crowds. The Tripolee stage is the first one you will see upon entering and you will most likely want to spend at least a day there just because of the diversity and the awesome sound.

In the Forest itself, there is the Forest Stage and The Observatory: each having their own signature vibes. You can always catch some sort of secret sets at these stages which adds even more magic to the Forest. The Jubilee is your ideal big tent packed with awesome people and music. Last, but certainty not lease is The Hangar stage where you can always find unique acts, get a haircut, or a tattoo.

Bonus Reason: Electricology
Electricology is Electric Forest’s innovative sustainability program. This program provides the community a chance to win exclusive prizes for being a part of the clean up efforts on site. They also provide guidance on how to pack and travel to the festival in a conscious and sustainable way.

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, there was an overwhelming amount of peace, love, unity, and respect coming from every attendee and staff member. The happiest and most welcoming of vibes were radiating throughout the entire festival. So with that said, see you all next year for Electric Forest 2017!
