Apple Music is partnering up with Dubset for a huge move in the music industry – Apple Music will now host unlicensed mixes, remixes, and mashups on the service. Unlicensed content will be screened by Dubset, a major music distributor, using their MixBank analysis software. Once all of the licensed material is identified the track is “cleared,” at which point the creator can choose distribution services. Royalties are then distributed amongst the creator and the original artists. This new system will be a large improvement in light of Soundcloud’s recent crackdown on copyright infringement, and something Dubset hopes will expand the industry.
