Broiler Talks Touring, History, Upcoming Releases + More [Exclusive Interview]

Norwegian duo Broiler has done it all – remixes, originals, touring across Europe, and…funny videos? That’s right – Broiler was first known as a viral video sensation, and we at FITA were fortunate enough to speak with the two full-fledged producers about their unique history, future plans, searching for vocalists and more in this exclusive interview.

1) Who is Broiler? How did you two meet?

Well it all started back in 2011 when we began to make these comedic viral videos. As the videos kept spreading throughout the internet, we realized we were building quite a substantial fan base that kept growing every day.

Then later that year we met with owners of Sky Agency, Trond Opsahl and Christoffer Huse who have a good knowledge and a long experience with arranging concerts, they helped us advance to the next level over and over again. Over time, all four of us worked more and more together as a group to reach goals most people saw as beyond the bounds of possibility.

All four members of this family contribute in different ways, creating a powerful and effective team with great comprehension of every aspect needed to extend the boundaries of the project. We’ve always had a strong drive to create, build and conquer personal and business related goals, and feel like this is only the start of something that’s going to be big!

2) How did you decide to transition from comedy to serious production?

After doing the comedy music for about half a year, we started to look for different ways to turn the project into something more meaningful and serious. It feels much more worthwhile to write music that we really can relate to and know that other people also can relate to it.

3) What are your Top 5 songs right now?

1. Zhu – Automatic
2. Mike Mago – Outlines (Zonderling Remix)
3. Watermät & Moguai – Portland
4. Coucheron – Chocolate Milk
5. Tommy Vee & Mauro Ferrucci – Stay (The Bloody Beetroots Vocal Remix)

4) Who has been your biggest inspiration/motivation?

There are a lot of different things in life that inspire us, but if we were to pick out some musical artists I think Oliver Heldens, Alesso and Avicii are certainly worth mentioning.

5) If you could collaborate with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

We get this question a lot and it’s fairly difficult to answer every time, but since you mention dead artists too i’d say Michael Jackson and then in terms of alive artists we’d say Skrillex. Preferably in the same track! That could get interesting.

6) You’ve made funny videos, remixes, and original tracks – which is your favorite to work with and why?

Of course it was fun doing the old videos, but it is really nothing compared to travelling around in different countries seeing people singing along to music that we have created all by ourselves. That is surely one of the most amazing feelings we know.

7) How do you feel about the current state of EDM and where do you see it going?

Music wise, I think it’s gonna evolve as always, but I think the trendsetters will be new and upcoming artists making something unique, and then the big artists will copy that along the way. But when it comes to live performance, it feels like the whole festival thing is going to die out after a while. It becomes very impersonal and therefore we are now planning a new live show, featuring much more live instruments and a lot more authentic feeling.

8) How do you prepare for a performance and what gets you most amped during a set?

Usually it’s very quiet backstage, so to get amped up before a show, we sometimes go out in the venue to look at the DJ in front of us and to get the whole vibe going before it’s our turn. Just before we go on, we jump around a bit and pour down an energy drink.

9) You’ve been playing shows across Europe, do you have any plans on touring the US?

Hopefully we’ll have the chance to tour in the US soon, but we really like to take our time to thoroughly build a fan base somewhere before we play there. Right now we’re focusing on making new music and spreading it around the globe.

10) What are you working on now?

We have a ton of unreleased tracks that we just can’t wait to release. The tricky part for us is to find great vocalists, so we’re really looking around these days.

11) What are your future plans?

Our future plans are to continue to tour around, write music and evolve ourselves in every way we need. We are currently learning a few new instruments, so we are really stoked to try that out on future live performances.

12) Would you rather be a dragon or have a dragon

Would definitely have one. It would be named Even.
