A man and a woman have been killed in a shooting at an afterparty for Drake‘s OVO Fest in Toronto. Three others were rushed to the hospital and are listed as critical. The shooting occurred around 3:30 AM at Muzik Nightclub near Molson Ampitheatre where OVO Fest too place.
Things went smoothly until this tragic event, overshadowing the calamity that took place in New Jersey last night, when at least two were shot at J. Cole’s concert (who was at OVO Fest himself hours before).
Toronto Police Superintendent Frank Bergen, of 14 Division, made a statement:
“This is a sporadic shooting that did occur just before 3:30 this morning at 15 Saskatchewan. It’s the Muzik Nightclub. A well-run event with lots of police officers in and around the area, culminating on a large evening event that occurred over at the OVO Festival.
What occurred originally in the bar area had spilled out into the streets so south and north of this area we do have three separate crimes scenes. At this point we do know for certain that one or two [shootings] were in the nightclub and we believe the others were outside of that area. This is all unfolding now and we’re doing our investigation.
It’s believed there are additional victims that have yet to be identified as well.
Rumors are starting to go around that these shooters are from Philly (Meek Mill), but this is likely false.
Bad night for the hip hop community because the acts of a few individuals are going to cast a deep shadow over the entire scene. You can be sure there will be many calling for an end of hip hop/rap shows…
Prayers go out to the families of those slain and injured.
