Jay-Z Sued Over Alleged Sample in “Run This Town”
The label TufAmerica is suing Jay-Z for allegedly using a 1969 single from Eddie Bo for HOV’s hit “Run This Town.” The track is from now deceased Bo was titled “Hook & Sling Part 1.” TufAmerica is asking for, “proceeds from ‘Run This Town’ and damages to be determined at trial, plus a court order to halt “further distribution and exploitation” of the Eddie Bo song.”
This isn’t the first time TufAmerica has sued an artist. The list of artists they have tried to battle include Kanye West, Beastie Boys, and Christine Aguilera. They usually don’t come out on top so the Jigga Man shouldn’t have to worry. “Hook & Sling Part 1” isn’t a stranger to being sampled in the rap game though. Other tracks you’ll hear it are Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack,” Kanye West’s “Good Friday,” and LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out.”
