Lauryn Hill – Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)
For those of you that haven’t heard yet, Lauryn Hill ran into some legal issues regarding tax evasion recently. After failing to file tax returns from 2005-2007 (ish), she was caught, and was ordered to pay $554,000, but she had only been able to pay about $50,000 of that.
Because of this she was set to have a sentencing hearing for failing to meet her obligations towards the end of April, where she could have received up to 3 years in prison. But her old label, Sony, decided to step in and pay the remaining balance – in exchange for Lauryn Hill to immediately begin releasing new music.
Here is her “compulsory mix” she was “required” to release immediately.
“Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there. In light of Wednesday’s tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today’s unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!” – MLH
