Tell us a bit about yourself, how old you are, where you’re from, where’re your located now?
I’m 27 and from Miami, FL. I currently live in Los Angeles and have for about 6 years now.
Were you always big into music growing up?
Yea I mean music has always been a heavy influence in my life as I’m sure it was for everyone, I just knew somehow in some way I would
be involved in it in some way or another. I’ve been listening to house music for about 10 years now and growing up I listened to Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bone Thugs N Harmony and stuff like that so I mean I like infusing music that I grew up on with dance music from time to time, even when I perform I like to throw that in my set as well and mix it all together.
How did you get into producing and how long ago? What type of music did you start creating?
For a few years now I’ve been producing here and there, but recently I would say I’ve been more focused and determined to just put out as much music as possible. I told myself a song a month for 2013 so thats the plan so far I’m 4 for 4. I’ve always produced house music but who knows what the future will hold, I’m always open for things and I like change.
Tell us, did you come up with BORGEOUS on your first attempt?
Honestly…… my last name is BORGER and people couldn’t say my last name right, so as a promoter when they came up to say my name they would say it wrong. So one day a door guy in Hollywood, my friend Rick, was like yo I’m just gonna call you BORGEOUS and it just kind of stuck from there.
Who were your early influences and inspirations?
I mean like I said earlier I would say as a kid growing up people like Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, and Sound Garden, I think Chris Cornell has an amazing voice as well. I would love to get in the studio with someone like that and make an awesome dance record. As far as house music people like Klaas and Benny Benassi.
What would you say is the first track of yours that really got received well? What do you think was the difference maker?
GANGSTEROUS was for sure. I made three tracks before GANGSTEROUS which all did ok but not like GANGSTEROUS.
I mean I think it was just different, it was kind of this gangsta rap infused with a dirty electro house beat and people liked it.
What genre would you label yourself now?
I’m not big on genres to be honest. I like to be diverse, like I said earlier I like change so I would never pigeon hole myself to just one thing ever. Shit who knows I might just do a country album one day lol. I like house, electro, trap house, rock, rap, r&b and I want to be able to do all that but just make dance records. 140 bpm or 128 whichever.
Do you listen to the same kind of music you produce?
Yes. But I listen to everything. One day I might throw on The Used or old school Linkin Park or one day I might listen to house all day, just all depends on my mood that day.
Now you’ve done a number of shows already, is there one that really stands out?
Yea so far best show was my last show at Vain Orlando. All my friends and family came out, sold out, it was just amazing energy. Shout out to Vicki and Brianna over at IN Orlando for always taken great care of me when I’m back there.
What’s an artist, or artists, that you’d love to collab with?
One Thousand percent if he were still alive Kurt Cobain but Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Pepeprs for sure.
Dream stage to perform on?
ULTRA…because I’m from Miami.
So you recently started this podcast series, what are your plans for it, goals, aspirations?
Yea I mean the reason behind it is to showcase a lot of my music all together at once and friends music and also music I’m listening to as well as some cool bootlegs and mashups and just through it all together into one episode on my podcast.
And what’s next for BORGEOUS? Any big shows, big releases coming up you don’t mind divulging?
Let’s see yea I mean currently I’m unsigned as far as management and bookings, I have a few agencies and people hitting me up so hopefully sone some big things will be happening, in the meantime I’m just 100% focused on just putting out more good music out consistently and everything else should just fall into place. I have a show Friday May 17th at Supperclub Los Angeles for my Birthday and a few in Chicago in June and one in Orlando in June as well.
