Read my full interview after the jump!
Jen: What inspired you to become a musician?
Danny: Music is the way I can express myself. For me there is nothing that makes me feel better than making people happy. I don’t know if I can explain it. It’s a pretty unique feeling.
Jen: What is it like being 17 and performing at massive events and clubs all around the world?
Danny: It has been like a dream for me, there are so many incredible experiences. I started DJing when I was only 12 years old, and you know all this big names like Tiesto, Fedde le Grand etc., these guys were my idols. If you’d have told me that I would be sharing decks with them, I’d have said you were dreaming, but now I’m right up alongside those guys playing in the same booth! Some of them get very surprised when they ask me my age and I tell them I’m only 17. One of the best moments during my career was when Tiesto was playing at Pacha Ibiza and I was his guest that night, so I was playing just right after him so he took the microphone and introduced me. The whole club was screaming and going totally crazy. People stayed until 7am! It was unbelievable.
Jen: What was it like meeting EDM icon Tijs Verwest (Tiesto)?
Danny: That was BOOOOM! He is such a nice guy and his crowd is really, really into it. They really know what kind of music you are playing, if you drop an acapella they all sing along. Just a fantastic experience for me to be able to get right in there with him and see how he works the music and the dance floor. He’s a legend.
Jen: Who are your musical inspirations?
Danny: Deniz Koyu is one of my favorite producers right now. You should also check out Mikael Weermets and Sick Individuals. As a DJ, Fedde le Grand inspired me a lot because he was the first DJ that I ever saw. Oh, and definitely Madonna! She is one of the biggest artists in the world. When you talk about music there are so many genres: Hip-Hop, Electronic, Pop, etc. But she is on top of that! She is like the queen of music.
Jen: Where is your favorite city to play and why?
Danny: New York! Pacha NYC is one of my favorite clubs in the world, and the crowd can’t get better! And also Miami, I’m SO excited for the Ultra Music Festival, I’m playing on the Main Stage so it’s going to be off the hook, I get so excited just thinking about it.
Jen: What do you love most about traveling/touring?
Danny: I love meeting new people, hanging out with the other guys on tour with me, getting to see places that I’ve never seen before and of course smashing it in the clubs, getting that wave of energy of everyone in the crowd – that’s what you live for, it’s an incredible feeling, just like… wow!
Jen: What artists do you listen to that are non EDM?
Danny: Madonna and Eminem.
Jen: What are some of your favorite tracks at the moment?
Danny: Zomboy – Nuclear (Hands Up), Knife Party – Rage Valley, Bloody Beetroots – New Noise, Wolfgang Gartner – Nuke and Flux Pavilion – Blow The Roof.
Jen: Do you ever catch yourself listening to your own music?
Danny: I listen to my own music while I produce it but not really often… when it’s finished and released!
Jen:What are some of your favorite foods?
Danny: I love meat! Also Asian food is amazing. And of course the Spanish Paella!
Jen: If you were stuck on a deserted island, what 3 things would you take with you?
Danny: My laptop, my headphones and probably my skateboard! Actually I don’t know if I could skateboard there, but I’d just try it.
