Event Review: Cosmic Gate at Pacha NYC 12/21
Last night, December 21st, marked my very first visit to Pacha in New York City. This was a very special moment for me because not only have I always wanted to go to there and check it out for myself, but I had the opportunity to see a favorite trance duo of mine who are indeed legends for their Wake Your Mind album tour – Cosmic Gate! Check out more after the jump.
Now when I first walked into the super club, I was taken back by the incredible infrastructure of the main floor. I loved the setup of the DJ booth and the lights – they weren’t overwhelming, they were just right. I also loved how the staircase lit up and the funky sign across the room facing the DJ booth proudly displays a pair of cherries replacing a heart between the words “I” and “NY” (see photo all the way above). Now let’s get to the music, shall we? DJ Mike Saint-Jules, the opening DJ of the evening, was absolutely fantastic. He spun mellow chillout tunes in the beginning of his set then started to play progressively harder sounds (a little minimal, a little tech-house) towards the middle. The dancefloor was already insanely packed around 11:30. The vibe was absolutely on point. I started to get really hyped and excited once Saint-Jules started playing high energy trance. He even played one of my favorite Above & Beyond tracks, “Alchemy”, towards the end and of course I sang along.
Once Saint-Jules concluded his diverse and wonderful set, Cosmic Gate took the booth and the crowd roared and cheered with excitement. Their set was also very diverse in regards to their track selection, playing some classic trance sounds as well as some new tracks. I especially enjoyed the beginning of their set. It was filled with riveting and pulsating energy that really had me moving. They played some of my favorite tracks that really stood out and made the crowd go crazy such as opening with their track “Wake Your Mind” featuring the Cary Brothers, the W&W remix of their track “Over The Rainbow” featuring J Something and “DUI” by Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge. It seriously was one of the best live trance sets I’ve heard in a while!
In essence, I will definitely be embarking on another trip to Pacha very soon. I not only enjoyed Cosmic Gate’s stellar set, but the opener was fabulous, too. I also hope to see Cosmic Gate play again soon. Cosmic Gate if you’re reading this, I give you two thumbs up!
