Event Review: Gareth Emery at Governors Island
Not only was the weather on Governors Island scorching hot this past Saturday afternoon into the evening, the music was as well. I was mesmerized by the sets of Zack Roth, Blake Jarrell, Jerome Isma-Ae, Gareth Emery and Ben Gold. I give major props to Blake and Gareth for thinking outside of the box and incorporating tracks such as iRok, Rolling Stones T-Shirt (Cazzette ‘Approaching Starry Homes’ Mix) and Rage Valley to change things up a bit in their trance filled sets. Dada Life’s Kick Out the Epic Motherf**ker also was a huge hit with the crowd… everyone raged and jumped along to the heavy bass as it played on. Trance classics such as Sanctuary and Concrete Angel blared through the speakers during Gareth’s set the crowd hummed along to the lyrics to create a sense of unity and love in the air.
I witnessed a few hipsters engage in what looked like the macarena, which was pretty interesting to say the least. I spotted a dude wearing an alligator outfit… props to him for wearing that ensemble in that crazy heat. With the incredible lightshow intertwined with beats blaring from the speakers, the impeccable lit-up Manhattan skyline in the background and being with hundreds of beautiful people who I considered friends, not strangers, I’ve honestly never felt so peaceful and happy before. This was my first trance show and I’m so glad it was Gareth Emery’s event! I absolutely can’t wait for my next trance show. I had an amazing time to say the least.
