Event Review: Hype Night 2 With KDrew, A Raging Success (w/ Interview!)
I had an awesome time at Hype Night 2 at Starland Ballroom Friday Night. It was one of the best shows I’ve been to in a looong time. The music was legit dubstep, not that wannabe “OMGZ SKrillex guys!” stuff. I was definitely feeling my pal Matty Beatz’ set when he threw in some house music to change it up a bit. New Jersey native KDrew threw down some dope dubstep remixes of radio hits and new releases by Zedd and Knife Party. The most memorable moment of the evening? When he brought out his grandpa and dad onto the stage while he was performing. So. darn. cute. I also had the opportunity to ask KDrew (aka Kevin Drew) the following, after the jump.
Short Interview With KDrew!
What made you get into Dubstep?
Kevin: Being a producer, I’m motivatedby the challenge of exploring different genres. Dubstep allows me to get into the technical side of sound designing, which I love.
You grew up in the great state of New Jersey, like me! What were your favorite things about growing up here?
Kevin: New Jersey was a really great environment to grow up in. My closest friends and family are in the area, plus it’s close to the city where I could get my feet wet in the music industry.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Kevin: Skrillex, Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Deadmau5
What tracks are you really most digging right now in the EDM world?
Kevin: I’ve been listening to a lot of Koan Sound, Adventure Club, Krewella and Zedd. Their new stuff is great.
Comment below if you attended the show as well and share your experience! You probably also saw me raging hard in my Fist In The Air tee if you were in fact there.
